Your child will begin intensive preparation for the PSLE with equal emphasis on developing real-world skills.

Content and Language Mastery
Students will learn advanced grammar rules and thematic vocabulary that will help them to build a strong foundation in the language. These include:
• sensorial verbs
• transformation of words in sentences
• direct to reported speech and vice versa

Skills and Techniques
Students refine their skills in the following key areas:

Speaking
Students will reinforce their communication and interview skills through DSA preparation classes and public speaking platforms such as debates. They will learn how to engage with the audience and present their arguments in a convincing and coherent manner.
Reading and writing

Students will learn how to write an engaging story with a clear structure and thoughtful use of writing techniques.

Learn to plan stories in a sequential and logical manner as well as identify logic gaps.

Practise creating story ideas that relate directly to the theme and visuals.

Students will also refine their use of writing techniques such as flashback, foreshadowing, twist and hook.

Students will also be trained in situational writing and learn how to write different text types such as emails, letters and reports.

Employ the WISE method (Writing= Ideas +Structure + Expression)

Metacognitive skills
Students will hone their metacognitive abilities and develop skills that will help them evaluate their own work. These include:
o error analysis
o answer precision
o the ability to identify logic gaps
o the ability to answer inferential questions
o analysis of assessment rubrics

Contextualised Learning
Students will be introduced to a wide variety of themes that will help them to contextualise their learning in the real world and raise their social awareness. Key themes include:
• politics and economics
• sport and entertainment
• arts and culture

Your child will start preparing for PSLE. The Primary 5 Math curriculum equips students with a strong foundation of key topics tested at PSLE.

Content Mastery
• Students will master new topics such as Percentage, Ratio, Area of Triangles, Rates, Average and Volume.
• Students will see the connection of new topics such as Percentage and Ratio with Fractions.
• Students will solve word problems involving units and parts, part-whole relationship with working backwards, common difference resulting from overlapping regions.
• Students will be exposed to new question trends involving logical reasoning and real-world applied learning.

Skills and Techniques
• Students will apply heuristics such as Tabulation, Multiple Equations and Complex Unitary Method.
• Students will construct geometrical shapes on square grids.
• Students will get accustomed to using a calculator in solving questions for Paper 2.

Applied Learning
• Students will explore and hone their logical reasoning skills through puzzles.
• Students will reinforce new concepts learnt through card games and online games, such as Ratio Tug-of-War, which requires students to come up with correct values to match a given ratio.
• Students will appreciate the real-life application of Math through videos and infographics, such as ‘Containerific’, which provides real-life examples of volume and capacity in the shipping industry.

The move to upper block Science topics requires students to integrate their understanding of various topics and have a more sophisticated approach to the application and presentation of their knowledge.

Content Mastery
• Students will be introduced to new topics such as Cells, Electrical System, Water and Changes of State and Reproduction in Plants
• Students will have regular revision of topics from the Lower Block.

Skills and Techniques
• Students will have greater exposure to questions that involve experimental skills and the application of science concepts to real-world scenarios.
• Students will recognise the function of a control set-up and how to construct an appropriate control set-up for a given experiment.
• Students will be closely guided on how to use appropriate science keywords, in context of specific questions, in their explanations for open-ended questions.

Applied learning
• Students will be exposed to practical skills such as the use of microscopes in the study of Cells.
• Students will recognise science in their daily lives through fun passages such as the science behind lightning.
